What is moss and does it work?
Moss is a peer-to-peer desktop app on Holochain that helps groups build collaboration spaces by composing custom "Tool" suites, last pushed on 2026-09-11. We know from its README and its latest release, group-happ-v0.16.0-dev.3 from 2026-08-11.
Moss is a reference implementation of a Frame for The Weave, which can also be understood as a Holochain runtime that makes it easy for groups to build collaboration spaces by composing custom Tool suites. It is maintained by lightningrodlabs (Harris-Braun Enterprises) and, as of the census read on 2026-09-13, was most recently pushed on 2026-09-11.
Moss is made of a group management DNA plus a defined pattern for building Tool DNAs that can be added to a Moss group. Each group, and each Tool used within a group, runs as its own private peer-to-peer network. The zomes are written against Holochain HDK 0.6.0, with a working web-happ structure in the repository.
Moss runs as a standalone desktop application, with build targets for Windows, macOS and Linux. You can install it by downloading a release; unstable dev releases are published on the releases page. The project can also serve as a toolbox whose components plug into a group.
